Sturdy, Yet Affordable Solution to All of Your Exercise Needs
I started this website on exercise bikes with a clear goal in mind, which is to help other people who are looking for an exercise bike. Sure, there are other websites. In fact, there are hundreds of websites on exercise bikes out there, each offering tons of information, which can be misleading, and sometimes, even contradictory. So, my goal here was to make sense of it all, and to present everything you need to know about exercise bikes in a clear and concise manner, and I think I have succeeded.
I am not an expert or an authority on stationary bikes. As a matter of fact, a while ago I had absolutely no knowledge on them whatsoever. But, after doing extensive research, I am confident in what I know, and more than willing to share it with the rest of you. While informal and personal, I try to keep my reviews unbiased and objective, since I have nothing to gain by favoring one manufacturer or model over the other. That being said, let’s move on to my review of the Exerpeutic 900XL Recumbent Bike with Pulse and find out more about it.
Assembling the Bike
Putting the Exerpeutic 900XL together shouldn’t be too difficult, especially because the bike arrives pre-assembled for the most part. The manufacturers assures buyers that it can be done by a single person, providing that they follow clear instructions stating which parts go together and which bolts go where. Complications might arise with the tension cable, since you are supposed to pull the cable to get the tension cord attached to the knob, and the instruction don’t do a great job of explaining it.
Despite the 900XL being a budget recumbent bike, a lot of care has been put into making it comfortable to use. And honestly, I prefer a budget bike which is comfortable and which performs well instead of one that’s crammed full of technology and gadgets. This is especially true when it comes to recumbent bikes like the Exerpeutic 900XL, which provides you with all the benefits of a low-impact workout while keeping your back and joints safe from pain and injuries.
On that note, the seat base and back support are well-padded, and the seat is quite large, enabling you to adjust it until you find a comfortable position for yourself. At the same time, though, the seat is actually one of the few drawbacks of this bike, since it might prove to be hard to adjust. You will have to pull and turn knobs a lot until you find the right position. If you are sharing this bike with your family or roommates, having to tweak the seat each time you use will get old really quickly.
The Exerpeutic 900XL features magnetic resistance with a total of 8 different resistance levels, which is quite impressive for a budget bike. Therefore, both the beginners and the more experienced users will feel challenged. Also, the fact that there are several levels to choose from, allows you to start from the bottom and improve your endurance, changing the resistance level every time you feel you are ready for the next one. You can switch between these levels with the turn of a knob.
The magnetic resistance is great because it doesn’t get in the way of your other activities during the workout. Since it’s responsible for the quietness of the recumbent bike, you can watch TV or listen to music without turning up the volume to the max, because the noise the bike makes while in use is virtually non-existent. Of course, the less an exercise bike annoys you, the more likely it is for you to work harder, since the process runs smoothly.
This bike comes with foot straps included, which are meant to hold your feet in place, so they don’t slip out while you are pedaling away. Thanks to leg stabilizers, you won’t have to worry about the bike becoming wobbly if you push it really hard.
Transportation is also easy thanks to the wheels which enable you to move the bike from one place to another without much hassle.
Don’t expect to be able to choose programs and set up user profiles with this recumbent bike, since it is tailored to a budget. The LCD screen is easy to read and it displays the time you spent pedaling, your heart rate, distance covered, speed and burned calories. These are the most important statistics you need to know when working out.
I think it’s great that Exerpeutic managed to include a heart rate sensor with this bike, since that number lets you know if you can increase your endurance or if you are already working hard enough.
The Exerpeutic 900XL is an entry-level bike, however, the fact that it’s affordable doesn’t mean that you should expect something of poor build quality. It’s solid and sturdy, which makes it appealing to many. Its main asset is that it’s so silent, nobody will know you are working out unless they are in the same room with you. For a good deal on one of these, just visit Amazon and start working out in a matter of days.
