The Mother of All Compact Exercise Bikes!
I don’t live in a large house with massive rooms and a ridiculous square footage count. Since it is fairly cozy, there is barely any room to house any exercise equipment. Sometimes, when it gets messy and I’m too lazy or busy to clean up, it seems like there is even less space (in my defence, I always know where everything is. I call it my creative chaos). Now don’t worry, I’m not about to tell you my entire life story, but I used it as an introduction for the Sunny Folding Recumbent Bike review.
I took a special interest in this exercise bike, because it fits the prototype of my ideal bike, due to my cramped living quarters, and I figured that many of you reading might be in a similar situation. It’s not just small, affordable and comfortable, but folding as well, so you can just put it away after you’re done using it
As you probably know, I am not the ultimate authority on exercise bikes, but I’ve learned a lot during the course of my research and I try to be as informative as possible in my reviews, and this will hopefully be the case with this review as well.
If you were to look up the definition of the word compact in a dictionary, a picture of the Sunny Folding Recumbent Bike would probably be standing right next to it. Folding it and putting it away is made incredibly easy, because the bike only measures 32 x 19.5 x 46 inches and weighs just 35 pounds. It was small to begin with, but this makes it an absolute champion when it comes to saving space. Needless to say, the Sunny is perfect for those living in a small apartment or even for college students living on campus.
Still, don’t fall into a trap of underestimating its effectiveness and stability based on its miniature dimensions. It’s easily sturdy enough to prevent you from falling over, even during the most intense workout sessions. Despite the fact that this exercise bike is lightweight, it’s still nice to see it equipped with transport wheels, which saves you the hassle of having to pick it up and carry it after you’re done working out.
Even though one of the defining characteristics of a recumbent bike is its comfort, this particular model doesn’t seem to pass this test with flying colors. The handlebars are a bit too close to the seat and the seat could use more some more padding, since it’s way sturdier than it should be. Unless you put a pillow under your butt while you’re working out, chances are that you’ll feel pretty sore afterwards. Also, if you are a petite person (say, under 5’3″), you will probably not be able to reach the pedals. However, this can be fixed by disassembling the back support and the attached handles, and then shifting the seat down.
The bike’s LCD screen is small but pretty much standard in functionality, showing important stats such as speed, distance, number of calories burned and time. The design is also quite nice, but some of you, including myself, might not be fans of its pink paint job. Also, despite the fact that there is a total of 8 resistance levels to choose from, it’s pretty much unnoticeable and it might not be as challenging as some people would prefer.
I might have gotten a little carried away with the listing of negative aspects of the bike, like there are not positive ones to speak of. But, there is a lot to like about this bike as well. For instance, it is stunningly quiet, it barely makes any noise at all. I would go as far as to say that the noisiest on it, would be you.
To be honest, the Sunny Folding Recumbent is not without its flaws, but since it’s built to a budget, you have to be more forgiving towards it. What you are getting for your hard-earned money is a sturdy, compact and silent exercise bicycle. And I know I have complained about its paint job, which is pink, but it’s hardly something you can’t live with because you will probably be the only one who will be looking at it. After all, it’s not like you’ll be taking it out for a walk. After taking everything into account, I would recommend it, but be aware of its limitations.
